Midnight Run

Midnight Run

drops of rain fall from the stars
unto my locks; draining them of
their luster and body

my feet pound into the pavement
running away from all my fears
until all is lost in a sea of doubt

drops of heat mimic the moistness
expelled onto my skin by the sky
drenching me in complexity

when will this life of endless
thinking and challenges cease?
will I ever be able to breathe
the clear air of spring again?

fire emanates from every pore
as I try to understand
this life of toil
